Clint Allen - Trumpet
B.Music, Grad.Dip.Ed.(Sec.) A.Mus.A.(pf),A.Mus.A.(tpt,with distinction)

Clint is a graduate of QUT's Academy of the Arts where he studied trumpet under Phil Ryan. Also holding his A.Mus.A. in piano, he has headed brass and piano workshops in Brisbane and Sydney, and is currently an instrumental music teacher at a number of Brisbane schools. Clint has also lectured in both Principal and Second Study Trumpet (Classical) at the Queensland University of Technology. He has also tutored at the QLD Young Conservatorium of Music (Griffith University) in Contemporary music composition (Composers Workshop) and directed various jazz ensembles. Clint has backed prominent artists including Don Burrows, Julie Anthony, Leo Sayer, John Waters, Christine Anu, Rick Price and James Morrison, and has travelled with various ensembles to Hong Kong, Hawaii and Vanuatu. Recently, he has performed and toured with BUZZ (led by Phil Ryan), a brass quartet formed by Musica Viva to educate young children around Australia. He is a versatile player who has performed in a variety of jazz and classical ensembles including the Brisbane Big Band and the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also played in pop/funk bands such as the Hip Hop Horns, Honey and Planet Funk. Clint is currently playing in the ten-piece Latin band, Hot Mambo and the highly successful Hip-hop band, Resin Dogs. Clint also is a regular recording artist in Brisbane appearing on various projects including the Resin Dog’s EP, ‘Set It Off’ (featuring Los Angeles rapper, Abstract Rude) and the album 'Hi-Fidelity Dirt' (2003). He also appears on Butterfinger's acclaimed album 'The Deeper You Dig' (2006) and on Hot Mambo’s debut album, ‘Smoke Signals’ which was released at the 2001 Woodford Folk Festival. He has appeared at almost every major Australian festival including the Big Day Out, Splendour In The Grass, East Coast Blues and Roots Festival, Livid and the Woodford Folk Festival. Clint's compositions have also been performed in Australia by various ensembles and in the USA by the Paducah Chamber Winds. Clint is actively involved in the presentation and promotion of new music in Australia. In 2005, he was awarded a Queensland Arts Grant to attend a brass chamber music seminar in the USA hosted by the Meridian Arts Ensemble. He is also involved with various side-projects including the premiere of Dutch composer Jacob Ter Veldhuis' "Heartbreakers" (for jazz sextet and samples) as part of the 2005 Valley Jazz Festival. Kate Leiper - Trumpet
B.Music

Kate Leiper has completed a Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium on classical Trumpet. She is currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Education at Griffith University. Kate remains a versatile musician having played with numerous groups of different styles ranging from Brass Bands to Symphonic Orchestras. She has played with several groups around Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, including The Late Shift, Northern Rivers Symphony Orchestra, Sunshine Coast Orchestra, BSO, Queensland Youth Symphony Orchestra, Supa Fish, Hot Mambo, and other small groups. Kate currently does freelance trumpet work around Brisbane, performing with the Ten Tenors (at QPAC and the Gold Coast), ALFIO at Suncorp stadium and other exciting and varied groups. She has also recorded on several albums around Brisbane, including working for such companies as Sound Junkies. Kate is also a singer who has appeared in various musicals and other groups around Brisbane, performing lead roles in such musicals as ‘Trial by Jury’.    Kate joined the ‘Seventh Chapter’in 2006, and has since played in Brisbane in venues such as the Zoo and The Press Club, as well as playing outside of Brisbane in Maleny and the Sunshine Coast.

 

Tom Green - French Horn
B.Music (Hons.), M Mus. Studies

Initially learning Horn from the late Alan Wilke and then Peter Luff, over time Tom has developed a ‘freestyle’ attitude to French Horn performance. He has also had the luxury of learning from, and at times bothering, one of his most admired living composers, Gerard Brophy. He completed his Honours degree in 1999, investigating modern Eastern Euro Wedding Band music. In 2006 he concluded his Masters of Music Studies (composition) at the Qld Con, and has also achieved top grades in philosophy units at the ACU.  Tom will be commencing his PHD in 2007, focusing on a topic combining music and philosophy. Tom has performed in the Duvante Wind Quintet, numerous brass ensembles and with the QUT Wind Symphony in Singapore, and the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra, and has performed at major festivals including the Energex Festival and the Woodford Folk Festival. He is a founding member of the unusual music and improvisation ensemble, The Radsters.  In 2005 and 2006 he helped out Tylea, taking part in performances of her original songs.  In 2005 he was awarded a grant to take part in a brass music seminar in the US, as hosted by the internationally renowned Meridian Arts Ensemble. He has composed original music for such identities as Katie Noonan, James Morrison, The Seventh Chapter and Hot Mambo. In 2003, he won the award of "Most Promising Composition," for his piece "Dreaming of Devils and Angels," in the Keys National Piano Competition, and took first place for the advanced composition component of this competition in 2004 with his piece “Elusive; Ancient; Wonder” for Soprano and Piano. Adrian Head - Trombone
B Mus (Perf), CNA


Born in Brisbane, Adrian received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Queensland. Upon graduation, he joined the Royal Australian Navy Band, based in Sydney, as Principal Trombonist and Staff Arranger, for eight years, during which time he was also employed by SOCOG to provide various arrangements for the Sydney 2000 Olympics. It was also during this time that he was also involved with directing and performing with various other ensembles in the Sydney area. After leaving the Navy, Adrian lived in the UK for two years, was on staff at the Royal Northern College of Music, and also worked for RISM- an organisation for which he catalogued the original manuscripts of works by such composers as Handel, Purcell, and Vivaldi in music collections thoughout the United Kingdom. Upon his return to Brisbane, Adrian has been very active as a trombonist, conductor, composer, adjudicator and clinician. He has performed with various ensembles, including the Queensland Orchestra, the Northern Rivers Symphony, the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, to name a few. As a clinician he has been invited to direct at various camps and clinics- such as a Music Directorship for GRIPPS, and as a guest clinician for ABODA. He is on staff at St Josephs College, and St Pauls Anglican School. From 2004 to 2006 Adrian was Music Director of Queensland Wind and Brass, and has been a regular guest conductor, and soloist, with the St Lucia Orchestra.  Adrian has several solo performances planned for this year, including performances with the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, the Brisbane Concert Society Orchestra, the Queensland Wind Orchestra, and is currently discussing the commissioning of new works for trombone with several local composers. 

 

Eleana Gillespie - Tuba
BA (Music), Grad.Dip.Ed.(Sec.), A.Mus.A.(with distinction)

One of the founding members of the Seventh Chapter, Eleana is now one of Brisbane's most respected young Tuba players. Studying under Craig Cunningham, she graduated with a BA. (Music) in 1996 from QUT and was the winner of the Brass Specialists Competition (1996) and Twentieth Century Competitions with her performances of virtuosic works for the Tuba. Eleana has also travelled to Hong Kong, Singapore and Hawaii with various ensembles and has been teaching instrumental and classroom music for the last five years. In 2004, Eleana was awarded her A.Mus.A. with distinction for tuba performance. Eleana is the odd-man-out in the group, so to speak.

 

David Kemp - Percussion
B.Music

David Kemp completed a Bachelor degree from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 2002 and is currently involved in many styles of music. His interests include performing with the experimental group “Seventh Chapter of Fine Brass”, junk percussion group “Construction Workers”, professional orchestral playing with the Queensland Orchestra, ethnic hand drumming and jazz/funk drumming. He has been involved in the award winning musical “Ruthless” and its return season, performed at the Woodford Folk Festival, toured Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, South Korea and New Zealand in various orchestras and has been a member of numerous projects and bands. David has made fairly regular appearances on radio and television, such as the Goodwill Games opening ceremony, the Good Morning Australia show and the Brisbane Riverfestival. David is subsequently a compulsive tapper, plays with his cutlery, complains of a sore back from carrying heavy things and can sometimes talk in a rhythmic kind of stutter.
